This same problem happened recently on my 2012 Mazda3, I guess due to the hot weather we had recently in California. I emailed Mazda and they said that there's a Special Service Program (SSPA9) which covers this repair, so any Mazda dealer should be able to repair it for free.

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) to extend the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (Normal Warranty coverage) for specific repair of instrument panel on certain 2010-2013 Mazda3 vehicles produced from May 6, 2010 through July 19, 2013.

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty (Normal Warranty coverage) for instrument panel replacement due to warping or gap is extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original warranty start date or April 30, 2018 whichever is later, with no mileage limitation.

On certain 2010-2013 Mazda3 vehicles, the instrument panel just above the information display may be warping, generating a gap between the instrument panel and information display, if exposed to heat under high ambient temperature.

If the instrument panel of your Mazda3 vehicle has the warping on its surface or a gap exists between the instrument panel and information display, please make an appointment with your Mazda dealer to have your vehicle repaired. Your dealer will replace the instrument panel of your vehicle with a modified one, free of charge.
Here's the full PDF they sent me: https://stuff.dan.cx/car/SSPA9.pdf

Reading thru this myself. Just picked up a 2011, currently repairing engine, however, it has a horrible dash separation. I'll be contacting Mazda with the details and Vin, surprised previous owner who defaulted on loan, never addressed the issue. Oh well, glad there's a free solution. Thanks for the details and info those who followed up.

I know it's been a few years since the last post but I figured I'd post an update that may work for other people. I called my local dealership (where I bought the car new) and asked the service department if they were aware of any recall for a problem with a separating dash to which they replied yes and promptly set up an appointment.

I am getting a whole new dash free of charge. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty (Normal Warranty coverage) for instrument panel replacement due to warping or gap is extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original warranty start date or April 30, 2018 but it still may be ongoing for others as well. This might have been more of a good-will replacement but hopefully local dealerships do the same for anyone else having this problem. I'll update this when I get back from picking the car up on 9/23/19.
