How would these shops be tuning your car?

JBR 3.0 and Cobb CBE are enroute

They would strap it down and goto town.

Kozmic knows mazda and has a dyno

D3 has a dyno and tunes a lot of high end cars (Lambo, porsche ferrari, JDM's and everything in between), and is also a COBB shop

Yes, go with d3. Tell them you want a JDM tune.

I had Kozmic do the parts install and did a Freektune. David at Kozmic is very knowledgable on our plat form also. Only thing I did not like about e tune is you have to find a place to data log. When I upgrade the turbo plan is to let Kozmic throw it on the dyno.

It was never worth it.

Etunes are ~$250 or less, generally, and are performed by guys who tune these cars everyday. Hell, they even drive them themselves.

A friend of mine just had his motor rebuilt by Kozmic and they talked him into a GTX3071 at the same time. No problems with the engine so far.

The tune is another issue though. My friend was clear his car was used for road racing.

First weekend at the TWS -- the car ran one day, then something went wrong, I think it was one of the EBCS hoses that melted due to too much heat or maybe just being too close to the turbo or the EM. Kozmic fixed the problem, however, at the same time they recommended ceramic coating the exhaust side of the turbo -- why they did not do it in the first place, I have no idea. The EM is still stock with all the heat shields, IIRC.

Second weekend -- the car ran one day, then something else went wrong, do not remember what it was. The car was driveable, just not under road racing conditions.

Kozmic installed a meth kit as well, which I applaud, but unfortunately, they used a 1 gallon tank, lol, and no baffle. I bet the low level indicator light starts blinking mid-session. I do not predict the meth pump to last long.

To sum, I do not want to discourage you from Kozmic, I am pretty sure they will give you a competent tune for the street or a drag strip, but if you want to go beyond that, Justin gets my vote.

Why not do a hybrid if you are worried about a place to data log? You could start with an E-tune and then if you want to get every last bit of power as well as document your results, you could get a couple of pulls on a dyno from one of the many shops in Houston with a dyno.

I talked to Kozmic about getting a dyno tune but due to the cost and me being cheap and a DIY type of person I read a lot on the forum and talked to some of our local tuners and started tuning my self. So for me and my goals it wasn't worth the extra cost for a dyno tune.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, it just comes down to how much you want to spend. Also ask yourself if you plan on doing more to your car. If you plan on doing more then what you ahve listed so far, just get an E-tune as it is cheaper and then worry about a dyno tune once you are at your final part goal.
