Default The Science of corn and other sprayables (Discussion)

@Enki; will you be playing with E85 injection at all in the near future? I think I will be going this route. I have decided to sell back my extended warranty, I am not worried about looking stock anymore. Time to take This to the next level...

You mean like 5th port? Negative if that's what you're asking.

Well I am not sure. I like where you went with the IC delete. I am torn between the two paths. I am leaning more towards an IC delete because of the cooling properties of E. Not only spraying E to keep BAT's down, but also will add fuel to give my injectors a break.

If E does not cool worth a shit then I'll have to go IC with a low load IC bypass (as discussed) and then 5th port or use my modified Injectors.

If anything, I think LAIC would be ideal; that's the only way I can think of to control boost temps with an intercooler and actually allow it to run slightly hotter than ambient at cruise.

do you have tig's?
since i have 4x3gph in the intake runners and 6th port im considering trying to bypass the fmic to reduce lag on the gt3076r clean up the engine bay.

its hasnt gotten hot here in iowa yet but my intake is always cool to the touch after any driving. bat's havent gotten over 100deg running 30lbs

TIGs only slow down the heatsoaking of the intake manifold, which continues to climb even with them installed if you have no intercooler. If I could go back and do it all over, I'd opt to not install the TIGs in the first place, and just do a coolant bypass instead.

Again I do *NOT* recommend an intercooler bypass on anything less than full corn. Deleting the intercooler on a lower mix will cost you power, pretty much guaranteed.

So here's the plan I've decided on:

1. Gonna run the 1/4 tonight and see what I get.
2. Tomorrow, gonna put the TMIC back on with 8 GPH post-intercooler and see how it runs.
3. Monday, I'm going to be getting all the pre intercooler spray shit and will start fabbing that up
4. Next weekend, I should be good to go on the pre-spray testing and should have some interesting results.

Would you benefit from ruining the stock tmic, so it's less effective?

The only downside to running the stock TMIC would be the flow loss/pressure drop would be even higher than what it already is. I'm not too worried about pressure drop for reasons that will be clear shortly, but I am worried about overall flow.

At the track, I put down a 13.2 @ 115 MPH. BATs were in the 130s at the end of the run, and MAFv was right at 4.06; this was close to 21 PSI. This was with 16 GPH M100.

I've changed my map to allow for a slight detune on first gear, as well as more aggressive load compensation so it tries to hit targets a bit better now (I'll modify this a bit more later on, after I've done the initial pre-turbo testing). Timing and load targets remain the same overall though.

Last night, my boost temps were in the high 50s (71 IATs), and I was only hitting just over 18 PSI; my massflow, however, went up: 4.11 peak volts. This was with 10 GPH M100.

Car ran like a top, which leads me to believe I was *TOTALLY WRONG* about too much cooling being severely detrimental to the performance of E85; it is more likely that I was just drowning the engine with 8GPH water/meth when on spring pressure (which would be a *huge* increase in fueling/cooling at that airflow level).

Considering airflow goes up when IATs go down (about 5% increased airflow with 20 degree drop in IATs or thereabouts), the 2 GPH pre-MAF test should be quite revealing on a couple of fronts.

More science to follow in the next week (my shit arrives on Monday).

"Without the risks of mistakes there can be no challenge. "

Higher BAT's!!! Get that fuel to burn! Just don't detonate. Because then it is game over for you.

I seriously cannot stop laughing at how terrible of a failure this test was; most of you probably saw that coming though. Attached are some pics and logs for your amusement.

The single line graph is MAF voltage. Yeah, it pegged hard every time the spray hit.

Current plan is to pull the MAF housing/intake and see where I can put the nozzle post-MAF; I'll probably just tap somewhere rather than install a bung.

The method the MAF sensor works by is measuring a difference between the reference and in air flow hot elements.

Spraying meth on the in air flow hot element made it cool down as much as ~1000g/s (randomly pulled out of my ass large number) air flow normally would...so yeah, pegged out is not surprising...

For some reason I was thinking Kashbringer was running his D01 pre-MAF without issue. No idea why I thought this, but the setup will be rectified probably tomorrow.

New post-MAF pre-turbo setup working great; no hiccups other than the possibility that I might be over timing or under timing by a large margin.

I was going to say, I think intakes like HTP have a threaded bung (I think for the PCV) that you can use for the Meth nozzle. What size are you trying out?

Anxious to see what you come up with
