So even with stock maf (or is it map?) you could set this above where it stops reading accurately, and it would still work? So, i could tune for 22psi (on a 2871) and set this to go off at 24psi, even with the stock sensor which does not read above 22psi ish?

It doesn't use the stock map at all There's no messing with the car's OEM wiring.

has no one heard of a pop off valve? its like a blow off valve but also like what lex is doing but it's a bypass valve that is set to let off at a certain pressure. hks used to make one can't find it on their site now though.

lex's seems more versatile and easy to apply to all platforms.

the only downside I see to this is that it may potentially mask a unsafe, unfinished, or half-assed tune, but I guess the light going off should indicate that there's something wrong.

make the light really bright...and in a colour that really stands out in our car.

That super bright red will light up the whole car so it can't be missed.

The idea here is that you notice the problem and do something about it. Although it can act like a boost controller you don't want to use it as such. The turbo would just be overspun for no reason and extended periods of time.

Very cool idea. Boost spikes are what scare me away from a downpipe. Looks like there may be a safeguard soon!

Great work!

Would this gizmo work on a "pull style" BOV such as the HKS SSQV where boost pressure in the i/c tube hits the back of the BOV piston and effectively helps to keep the piston sealed?

I think I know how it will work on the typical OEM style valve, but I'm not sure how you can get the HKS style valve to dump boost pressure without somehow creating vaccum in the "signal" hose from the manifold.

Thanks for the offer - will be finalizing the design and doing testing and we will probably send out some beta versions - as you guys know I won't have anything leave my hands before it's passed through the ringer. I won't say 2 weeks Will keep this thread updated.

I think I know how it will work on the typical OEM style valve, but I'm not sure how you can get the HKS style valve to dump boost pressure without somehow creating vaccum in the "signal" hose from the manifold.
Yes, the solution will work with poppet type valves.

Well that depends on which tube "pops off." But if the tune, the wastegate, and the failsafe fail, sometimes it's safe to say fail was just meant to be Up to you on how you want to layer the safety nets and how many you want.

I fucking love this forum. I can finally run a simple IWG setup, catless, in the cold. Thanks for the hard work and research. I can't wait to see the final product!

The idea here is that you notice the problem and do something about it. Although it can act like a boost controller you don't want to use it as such. The turbo would just be overspun for no reason and extended periods of time.
Can you add a audible alarm similar to this along with a blinding light?

The brain will be in the engine bay - the hassle of bringing a buzzer into the cabin is probably not worth it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. This will work with all turbo cars.

as usual I am late to the game but this is a very interesting concept and an absolutely GREAT idea. What better way to control runaway boost than to dump it from the intake tract.

again absolute pure genius!

P.S. I want to try one and see just how tunable and how fast reacting it will be.

Just working out the details to finalize the product. It takes a little while to get something that works well and looks good ready for the market. Everything from final design to supply chain setup takes a little while ...

This would be a great integration option for the guardian!

There are actually at least two types of output on FS controllers. One provides a 12v signal at fault and the other [mine] provides a 12v signal UNTIL there is a fault.

You would need to have inputs for both types or just use an SPDT relay, which is what I do to trigger my red light when 12v signal is lost. I am sure there are other more elegant solutions to this.
