Well lex, you were the one that was hard at work on the boys and girls.

Not sure which boys and girls "these" were but I hope they are ok.

Good eye - there are several differences between that device and ours:

- Our device is electronic and easy to set using a dial instead of guessing around with tightening a screw
- Our device has an LED indicating it has tripped
- Our device can be externally triggered via a WMI controller or similar
- Since their device is mechanical they recommend testing it ever so often which is a pain with the mechanical adjustment that is not precise. The electronic setting in ours makes setting and testing it simple, fast, and repeatable.

It's coming folks, I won't say two weeks though

Alright guys and gals - the packaging and enclosure is being finalized which was the toughest part. However, as part of the testing we uncovered that the failsafe (at least as it is now) does not work with reversed or pull type valves. The most common example is the HKS SSQV.

Most BPVs including all OEM ones only require the pressure in the intake manifold to drop (throttle close) for them to release. However the SSQV is further sealed by the boost in the charge pipes. So the turbo itself must slow down as well as the throttle close.

Since the solution we're working on essentially mimics a throttle close, if the failsafe is triggered and the user does not let off, the boost in the charge pipes is enough to close the SSQV back up.

In short, boost is not limited if you keep your foot into it once the failsafe is triggered when using reversed valves such as the HKS .

For how many people would this be a deal breaker? In other words, how many people out there that have shown interest are using the HKS valve and plan on sticking with it?

Most BPVs including all OEM ones only require the pressure in the intake manifold to drop (throttle close) for them to release. However the SSQV is further sealed by the boost in the charge pipes. So the turbo itself must slow down as well as the throttle close.

Since the solution we're working on essentially mimics a throttle close, if the failsafe is triggered and the user does not let off, the boost in the charge pipes is enough to close the SSQV back up.

In short, boost is not limited if you keep your foot into it once the failsafe is triggered when using reversed valves such as the HKS and Synapse.

For how many people would this be a deal breaker? In other words, how many people out there that have shown interest are using the HKS valve and plan on sticking with it?
This is prob a deal breaker for me since I'm running the HKS right now...

First of all, excellent work! Someone told me about this a couple weeks ago, but I'm just now stumbling upon the thread.... better late than never.

CPE fmic/HK$ here as well. However, very interested in how well this works in high boost BT app.... I'd like to run 25psi, and have it set to purge at 27psi... can it get rid of that much air fast enough? I need to upgrade my CPE fmic to a custom TR8 2/ 2.5" pipes, so I would definitely consider changing bpvs (and sell the HK$ w/ the cpe kit) so I could run this device. I'm way too lazy to change the flange/bpv in the meantime, and I'm just running spring +ewg, so I'm not really at a huge risk atm. However, even tho I replaced all my vac line going BT and have nice high temp vac line going to my ewg, that line still makes me nervous, lol. I check it periodically for cracks/etc.... you never know wtf can happen and have it crack/melt/etc and you're fucked. Great invention! I would definitely try to patent it.

Any way to to have use two settings to replace the w/m BCS failsafe some of us run? Like the normal set up to purge at 27psi, but if it gets a 12v signal from my w/m fs, have it only hold like 15psi? Is that what you were talking about with the w/m integration? That would be sweeet!

I'm a noob. Is the COBB XLE BPV a reverse/pull-type valve?

The COBB is not a reversed valve.

The non reversed valves always have boost pushing against the piston that releases the air such as show below. Boost pushes against the piston from the bottom.

The reversed or pull type valves that our failsafe does not work for is shown below:

As you can see the charge pipe boost coming from the bottom inlet presses against the BACK of the piston essentially sealing the valve as long as there is boost in the charge pipes. This is how the HKS works.

Lex, the Synapse DV can be run in either push or pull mode.

That being said, I've had my eye on the XLE anyway. LOL

Yes, for the HKS valves I would not consider this a solution at the moment. As I mentioned, the HKS type valve requires two elements:

- A drop in pressure on the vacuum signal line
- An actual drop in boost in the charge pipes which means the drive has to ACTUALLY be off the throttle.

This is the reason the HKS type valves sometimes result in more compressor surge.

There is a slight "blip" in boost when the device triggers but if you keep the foot into it and continue generating boost, the HKS will seal back up.

Thaks Doug! A couple of clarifications. The amount of boost that your system will hold with the device triggered depends on your setup. If the BPV is a push type, it will be significantly less than what you set your setpoint to. On a stock turbo and BPV, it can't make more than ~10-12psi. You will feel a loss in power, see a red LED, and if the valve is recirculated so that you don't lose metered air, the car will continue driving normally without a fuel cut like feeling so it will be safe if you're in the middle of a merging maneuver.

The device can also be triggered via a 5V or 12V signal from any other source such as a WMI or any other controller with that type of output. If it's triggered, once again boost drops, you get the LED, and you know something is off right away.

The system will reset once you're out of boost, so you don't have to pull over or stop driving to be able to drive into boost again normally. You just get off the the throttle.

I wasn't aware of this - I should do a little more reading on this. Once some of the beta testers get their hands on this and do some testing with different setups and valves, I'll be able to share more about specific valves and their performance.

@Lex,

The mounting flange and discharge tube can be installed on either side of the synapse diverter valve, and dictates which "mode" the valve is in.

Testers could simply flip sides that their flange is on to test.

great news lex, glad to hear things are moving along. I can see this device selling like hotcakes in all boosted platforms.

great news lex, glad to hear things are moving along. I can see this device selling like hotcakes in all boosted platforms.

I'd expect you'll be retiring soon
Haha ... nah man, this car thing is just too much fun! It's all about getting more cool products out there for enthusiasts - just have to work on faster turn around times!

Nope, the BPV sound will be unchanged unless the unit is tripped and then you will hear a whooosh as it releases pressure.

Very cool product. On my XR I'm using the boost-cut built into the MegaSquirt and violent is an understatement.
