going with corksport. Just cat back. Any problems with aftermarket down pipes causing boost creep?

I just wanted to give my .02 on the magnaflow exhaust. I need to install my downpipe still but I didnt want to mess with that today.

Overall it is a nice exhaust. I have used magnaflow in the past and the one thing that pissed me off about this particular system is the slip fit. I didnt test fit the pieces before installation (wish I had) the rear section would not go together. I ended up having to use some vice grips to open it up a little to get the two pieces to slide together. That isnt really a big deal, but If I am buying a "bolt-on" exhaust I expect the shit to bolt-on without having to dick with it.

finkle had mentioned having an exhaust leak at the cat. Mine went together perfectly and does not leak (there) BUT I do not have my downpipe installed and I am not running a testpipe.... I will update whenever I get around to installing the downpipe. I DO have a small leak at one of the midpipe connections... I tried to get it to stop but couldnt so I will probably take it to an exhaust shop if I cant fix it.

I didnt really like the way the kit was sectioned either. It was 4 pieces total, The resonator replacement being 1, the midpipe, and the piece that goes over the suspension to meet the rear section. I think it would have been a little easier to install had it been 3 pieces. It was just a pain in the butt to snake the smaller piece through.




For the price it is a great exhaust. It is extremely quiet which I am happy about. Hopefully it is still fairly quiet after I put the downpipe on. My car no longer has the cheap "airy" sound the stock exhaust produces. Instead it is extremely deep and even though it is quiet, you can tell there is an aftermarket exhaust installed.


scale of 1-10 for the exhaust in general I would give it a 7.5 or 8
would I buy it again? yes.

The above is all spot on, as far as my impressions of the Magnaflow also.

To be fair to both Magnaflow (exhaust) and Ultimate Racing (test pipe), there isn't any guarantee that individual parts from different manufacturers are going to fit perfectly together.

If the Magnaflow had been loud enough for me, it looked nice, and could have been fixed easily by a qualified exhaust shop @ the leak that I described and my slow1 referred to.

I have finkle's exhaust now, and I agree with both of them.
I have stock dp/rp for now, and I can't really tell any difference in sound from the stock exhaust. The tips look great though!
I had to open up all of the slip joints, but I assume it is because it was used, and they had already been compressed when finkle installed them.
Hopefully when I get my dp on, it will make it a little more noticeable.

Just got my Corksport exhaust installed today. The audio on my video camera sucks. So rather than shooting a video clip, I took some audio recordings using a digital field recorder. First is a recording of stock, then the Corksport. Stock downpipe and race pipe. See signature for other mods.

EDIT: Added a short in-car video clip.

I just want to let everyone know that magnaflow exhaust is not a 3inch exhaust. After the 3inch flange that hooks to the DP it bottle necks down to what magnaflow says is 2.5 inch but what i measured as id of 2 1/4 inches. So everyone that didnt fix this you have a more restrictive exhaust than stock.



For my fix i bought a new 3 inch flange (since no muffler shops carries them) then I will cut of the old flange at the bottle neck. Then weld new piece of stainless steele that flares a little to fit my cp-e dp. Now I will have a real 3inch magnaflow cat back. I will let you know how this goes later this week once I get the 3 inch flange delivered.

From what I understood, the exhaust (at the catalytic converter) is necked down to 2.5". It then expands immediately to 3". Is this not correct??

that is correct.

I dont think a 2" section of smaller pipe will make that big of a difference, but I will probably have mine cut out as well.

once it bottle necks than what ever comes after it can only flow as much as that. Are you talking about stock or Cp-e dp, a cat will cause some slow up but that unavoidable, this bottle neck i can avoid.

I'm talking about the Magnaflow CBE.

Stock is 2.5", Magnaflow is 3" except for where it connects to the stock cat, it necks down to 2.5" for stock.

So once it does bottleneck down to 2.5 than the exhaust is a 2.5. And I measured the id its 2 1/4. I have a 3inch dp, I want a true 3inch exhaust.

Glad to see you got it ok. Enjoy it. I loved the sound, but it was a bit loud for me.

When i was installing my Magnaflow CBE i didn't even notice the bottle neck part that connects to the DP.

I was in a hurry at my friends shop putting it on and it got busy real quick so i rushed it. When i put my SU RP on i will certainly look and take pics as soon as i get my car back from the shop.

That bottle neck could explain why the magnaflow sounds similair to the factory exhaust. If it is 2.5" or less i'm gonna have it cut down and made 3"...

The magnaflow cbe i rate 7/10 because of it was a bitch to bolt up properly. No matter what i did one muffler stuck out almost an inch more than the other and it pisses me off.. It's good for the money though if you plan on mating it with the rest of the exhaust fo sho.

did you try adjusting the hangers and stuff? Mine was uneven but after playing with the hangers and adjusting how the pieces slipped together it was perfect.


I noticed where it necked down, but there is no way the ID was 2.25". I dont think it was as bad as what is pictured above. When I do my downpipe I will pull that piece off and measure the ID.

You can't leave the cats out of it because it's a cat-back system. But if you have a 3" RP, then yes, it's necking down to 2.5" at the beginning of the Magnaflow CBE, then going 3" again. I'm confused by your post about the 2.25" somewhere in this exhaust.

Idk, I tried taking pictures of the id but the flash kept reflecting off the tape measure. It is not even close to 2.5. The rest is 3 inches though, And the only one that is released as of the date is the speed version MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

this is why cobbs dp tapers down to 2.5 at the cbe flange side. b.c its not going to restrict that far down the exhaust

cobb tapers it down ON THE DP. they usually do this to mat to the stock exhausts. but from what i was told. you wont see restriction out of the exhaust until around 500hp

For the money, Magnaflow seems best. UR's axleback doesn't fit very clean.. I didn't like pictures I seen on nyspeed.com.

Had the Rez removed yesturday, 2% improvement. I say this because it really isn't much louder. But in my opinion the sound quality (the note and tone) is improved. So from here I want to modify the muffler set up.

Get a test pipe?

It'll be cheaper than getting the muffler removed/replaced, and will sound pretty good. There's a clip of how it sounds at the beginning of the thread here I think.

Alright so here how it went. They guy charged me $60 bucks for install and modification of the pipe. So, not that bad. total cost for me was 400+100 (cost of not selling testpipe)+60= 560.

This pictures is of the maganflow pipe that connects to the dp where the restriction is, next to it is my corksport test pipe.


So the guy cut off the flared part of the testpipe and cut off the top flange. He welded them together and we used the cs flange and this was created.

So at idle and cruising it is no louder than stock (with a dp) At wot it it has a much louder and deeper growl. This is everything I wanted so I am very pleased. As for the video...maybe tomorrow, i tired from work and need to do data logs.
