I'm really interested to see what Ultimate Racing's double walled exhaust tips look like. I actually had PM'd UR asking if they could actually do a custom axleback for me, where they actually mount the exhaust tips rotated 90* inward, so the top of exhaust tip angle cuts exactly following the curvature of the Gen2 bumper. Like the factory exhaust.

RB is going to be quiet and nothing your going to want to hear until after DP's are removed. Its going to sound somewhat like the tanabe. Most likely it will be quieter than stock.

As for UR..man I never thought of anything else other than RB and magnaflow cause i want something queit.. but that shit is nice. The ones on their website are nice as well... What do people say about how loud it is after DP removed, anyone know?


edit: I guess UR is loud in CBE.. anyone here have the Axleback?

I have a video of a UR CBE + full DP in an earlier post. It's a lot louder when boosting but I haven't had a chance to do a drive-by video yet.

Ive got a UR CBE with a Vibrant "Ultra Quiet" high flow resonator welded in and mufflers deleted. (So 3 inch straight pipes)
Sounds pretty good to me. Im on stock DP and second cat currently, Ill be putting a TP in sometime.

I can get a vid up if there is interest

thats weird...why would you get their cbe and chop it?

Bought it used, was a special order without the mufflers, previous owner welded in the res to quiet it down after a DP install.

Yeah, adding a dp to the exhaust will significantly change the sound output. Even the stock exhaust with an aftermarket dp will start to sound firery.

I'm still interested in hearing what a stock Gen2 exhaust sounds like with aftermarket DP.

Hmmm, maybe I will do a video of it. I don't have a nice video camera but I can definitely swing something on my phone or camera.

Damn I didn't even realize you had a DP with stock exhaust.

Going DP only still means you'll almost absolutely need plugs, AP, and fuel pump right? I miss the bolt-on days lol.

Haha yeah. I have a cobb dp.

I am starting to get complacent because I am so used to the sound of the car with a dp and stock exhaust that I am wanting to hear the growl more. The sound is a lot more pronounced with the dp/tp w/resonator delete combo and it really does sound satisfying...I think Aetherfury discribed it as Bison/Buffalo having sex.

From what I have gathered so far from people, UR and CS catbacks will definitely increase db's significantly with the addition of a downpipe. It really depends on what you are looking for sound wise. This is my dd and I do not want a lot of attention when driving my car around--I also do not want to get any additional drone. I am very happy with the stock exhaust and resonator removed, just wish the exhaust tips looked more aggressive.

Oh yeah, cold starts are loud as fuck even with the stocker now.

My main annoyance with the stock exhaust is the buzzing with the stock muffler. Then again, i'd deal with it if the stock muffler kept things within reasonable if I ever got a DP. Then again, this is also my DD and i'm not sure if I want to go stage 2-ish at all.

The UR Axleback sounded real mean, but so far, I like the smooth sound of the Magnaflow. Of course, there's that controversy around the neckdown in piping size when it bolts to the factory cat. The Magnaflow CBE with the coupon code at hottexhaust is still the cheapest overall solution. I'm still wondering what SURE's CBE is going to sound like.

CS is too loud, and I don't like the brand badges welded on the tips.

Don't worry too much about the 2.5in taper down. That would be an issue if you had a big turbo. And even them, only a 3hp gain was seen - well below the margin of error of a dyno. Gases are not water, the are compressible.

Well, it didn't bother me at first because stock is 2.5". But then another member on here (i think it was donotbugme) said the inside diameter where it necks down is 2.25" which is smaller than stock.

I said the if inner diameter of the magnaflow exhaust bottles down to 2.25 at the beginning of the exhaust. Since the cp-e dp is 3inch all the way I modified the exhaust to get the bottle neck out. Im sure I didnt make much or any difference but I wanted a 3inch exhaust

Sounds good! Not sure about that decelerating rattle right near 1500 rpm. I like that growl right at 0:15 seconds. Very nice!

I think UR and CS are the best. They both have the deep sound. The UR is the loudest of the 2. Both have that deep sound. I have the CS CBE with a CNT DP. The CNT DP is 3 inch all the way to the end.

Just installed a UR DP and CS RP to go along with the CS CBE I already had in there. Don't know if it sounds any different than it did with just the CBE, but it's definitely LOUDER. That and shit rattles inside the car like never before. LOL.

LOL, thanks! The worst part is that I paid off all my credit cards a few months ago just so I could buy this car. Now that debt is creeping up again (DOH!), but manageable and nowhere near as bad as it was before. I've never had a car before that was worth modding, or the wherewithal to do so even if I did. So my approach to modding has been 1) do it right and do it once, 2) get the parts that I really want, and 3) don't settle for anything just because it's cheaper. I'll be intalling a CP-e FMIC and TWM shifter next weekend and that should be it as far as major mods go. My problem is I'm just too damn impatient and want to do it all right away.

December is a good 4-5 months away. PLENTY OF TIME!!!!
