Several questions along my build

Hey Guys,

1. Receiving my engine block back from the machinist I noticed a part that I don't remember taking out. Take a look at the little coin shaped part in the pictures. Closest thing I can find to that is part of the balance shaft delete units, but I never had one before.

2. There seems to be a lot of casting flash in the block, looks like oil drain paths, have you guys taken a grinder to those areas or just left them?

3. The engine manual shows a gasket for the oil pump, but im not seeing other sources show this as true. Is there a gasket between the oil pump and the block?

Have you replaced the VVT ? Not sure but the VVT has a blocking pin looking like this on the exterior....and this is the waek part of it that fall off and destroy the timing or more...

I never saw a gasket between bloc and oil pump but i did see gasket kit giving some, i asked myself if i should use one or not and decided to put it aside...

I did soften some of the casting where a chip could fall of or on the outside where i could cut my skin working around it but i did it prior to send it to machine shop to make sure any metal dust would be cleaned.

The previous owner replaced the VVT, looks like he did it after it failed.

On a side note, my machinist says that the main bearings can be standard but I'm seeing a clearance of 0.0025" on the original bearings. Spec is 0.0007-0.0013".

Should I go 1 size under to get to the spec or just get replacements at standard size?
