Lol It's way easier to go clutch less with no weight. Take a ton of resistance out of the setup.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I second the stock weight. I've gone lighter, and weightless and came back to stock for smoothest shifting.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The weight is there to make the shifter feel like what mazda perceived the preference to be for the 'average person.' Turns out, @Easter Bunny; isn't average. Who knew? The presence of a (stock) weight, and/or heavy shift knob will make the shifter feel different. Some people think it feels smooth, others think it feels dead. All personal preference, hence the different options for different people. I think mine will be coming off soon.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Here's how I recommend it, after running a few ways for lots of miles... -If you have a lighter than stock knob, like the cobb knob, run with no weight. -If you're running with a heavier than stock knob, run with the stock or an aftermarket weight. -If you're running a stock or similar weighted knob, run a weight, but lesser than stock. Regardless, try with/without the weight, it's your car, you'll know what feels right. From what I've found, having it all balanced out, makes for the best shifting feel and enjoyment. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Matt, the weight is there for more than just preference. The weight/mass added to the selector plate at the tranny helps gear engagement.....removes the notchniness.....so you're not just jamming it in there. Like you said it's your car and do what you like but its seems like insanity to me to remove it. Just leave it alone and enjoy the Damond's smooth shifting plate. It really is there for a reason. Otherwise you are right back to the "other guys plates and weights". Pure crap. Clunking on downshift, notchiness, etc....just beating the shit out of the gearbox. My 2 cents.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I actually feel that you need to balance the weight on the shifter and transmission ends. I am running no shifter weight, a stratified shifter extended and a stock shift knob. with this there is no notchiness, clunking or resistance whatsoever. also importantly, there is no "bounce" on gear selection when you shift quickly. It is very close in feel to my last car which was rwd and had the shift lever attached directly to the transmission. If you are running a heavier than stock shift knob you might need to run a weight in order to balance things out.

| Not Ranked : 0 score this is officially the weirdest argument I've seen on this forum. Ever. And there has been some weird shit to go down here. I'm looking for a new SSP for the new car and will probably go with this one because why not. Setup on the juan was stock weight, JBR plate, and COBB knob. But I've had just about every combination. Stupid question but @Easter Bunny; how do you secure the plate when removing the weight, just a nut and bolt through the holes?

New to me ms6 this summer. 30 or so drag passes with great 60s, lost track of how many ax runs, and 2 hours of track time, 1 missed shift. Even that was largely because my clutch had enough. Hope you enjoy it for years like I have my original prototype from 4 years ago.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Got mine in the mail and installed today. I'm in love. It really put my shifter in the sweet spot it's been missing and my throws feel so good. I took my weight off for the first time today and I wish I'd done it sooner. I also have an STS, so I thought the SSP might make my throws too short, but my setup with the extender allows for it. Great product, OCC is next.

| Not Ranked : 0 score In the 5 years I've owned his car I have yet to choose a preference on this knob/weight/SSP topic. Fuck, it takes me weeks to readjust my seat if someone else drives my car and adjusts it... IMO, we just have a notchy disconnected feeling shiftter/linkage setup and we have some personal preference options on the best feel for the user and their application. To that...experiment away!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Took me all of 10-15 to install. Not as big of a throw reduction at all tbh. But overall shifting feels tighter and smoother.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Love the SSP - tried it without weight, wasn't a fan. Put the weight back on and its perfect (w/ cobb knob). |

| Not Ranked : 0 score With the Damond SSP I use the leather CS knob. I have tested all the weights... from low to high: -No weight -Cobb weight -JBR weight -stock weight I concluded that no weight and Cobb were too notchy, stock weight too slow, JBR weight near perfect. Therefore I'm inclined to agree with Matt's comments on balancing the system. With that said, I also think it's a good idea to go with a setup that lightens both as much as you can personally stand to reduce the amount of g-load-induced undesired shifting.
