Got a tune almost 2 years ago.. 2 Attachment(s) I noticed a little bit of hesitation tonight when going WOT. I've never noticed this until tonight so I'm thinking I might have just gotten some shitty gas. Rob rfinkle2 did my tune and I tried to email him but I guess the email is no longer valid so I'm posting this here. Please move if you feel it's necessary. Can someone take a look at these logs? One is in 4th and 5th gear and the other is a 3rd gear log. Noticed a little bit of hesitation around 4-5k RPM. The only thing I have changed power wise since the tune was a CBE, which I did a couple of months ago. I know I need to clean my intake valves as I have 60k and I haven't done it yet. I don't even want to know what they look like! I do notice a bit of black smoke from the exhaust when going WOT but don't notice any oil consumption (running Rotella and change religiously every 3500 miles). |
Don't see anything in the log except maybe you need to clean your MAF. Your AFRs bounce around a bit causing fuel to fluctuate.... How many miles on your plugs? Checked the gap lately? |

Clean the MAF and look into new plugs... just my thoughts |
Thats a good amount of miles on the plugs. I would get a new set and gap them to .028" which will more than likely take care of the hesitation you are feeling In the 3rd gear wot log, starting at cell 45 you can see afr blip lean, and then cells 54 and up you see the same. That is a classic sign of a misfire typically caused by plugs |
I ordered new plugs today and will have them tomorrow. I'm just going to baby it until I put the new ones in tomorrow. I feel like an idiot, I totally forgot that the plugs are only good for like 10k. I usually put about 10k a year on my car so I'm going to just start changing them every year. Thanks for the info guys. |

3 Attachment(s) I ordered some more Denso ITV22 plugs but they didn't come in today like they were supposed to so I stopped at Advance and got some Autolite 1 step colder plugs. I did some WOT pulls and the hesitation is totally gone. What did you mean by the AFR lean blip? The 12 reading? I'm still seeing that in the fresh log from tonight, though in a different cell. Anyway, the car feels much better now but looking at the plugs, I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't be running 1 step colder. I'm seeing some white on the plugs. Isn't that indicative of the heat range being too low? |
Change the plugs every year or every 15k miles tops on modified cars. I change mine every year in March/April. Just to make an idea about the rate they wear at, my plugs are always gapped at 0.65mm/0.26". When I change them they're at 0.8mm/0.32". They'd still be good for a car that is not or just lightly modified but not really good for throwing high boost at them. When the gap is too big the boost wave would have the same effect on the spark like wind on a candle. |
