So as some of you may know, I recently decided to install a shmedium turbo. My car is my daily and I wasn't interested in breaking any records, so with response and drivability in mind i decided to go with the GTX2867r. I purchased the turbo/tune from Justin as a bundle when he was running the site-wide 5% off in response to the COBB sale. Justin contacted me right away with tracking info and the turbo arrived at my door within a few days. Justin was very straight forward and helpful with making sure all of my supporting mods were right to reach the goals I had set. I was provided with a base map right away and from there he build began. The longblock itself was the only thing that wasn't replaced. Once the install was finished the fuel system was primed and the base map was loaded. I crossed my fingers and turned the key and car immediately roared to life and settled itself in to a perfectly smooth idle. After only 6 revisions i present you with my final numbers...

I couldn't be happier with the outcome of this process. Justin managed to get me almost 45 more horsepower than i had figured i would put down on pump gas. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with and his communication is second to none. I cant wait to work with him again when my methanol setup is ready to go.

If you don't like or want E, ask the @Freektune; what he thinks about Meth in your tank. I feel it adds a lot of safety to any tune and lets you really roar

i may look into that, the plan is a tb spacer with opposing do7 nozzles though

Great results! Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a little bit here. A few weeks ago I was talking to a local and he was steering me away from the BNR S3 and towards a GTX2867R. In researching what this turbo can do, I have found that it is much more in line with my goals, which is right around what OP is putting down (I'm also at sea level, w/93 octane), with room to grow in the future if I decide to build my bottom end. Right now I am thinking it is most logical to either go with the ATP GTX2867R IWG kit, or the ATP GTX3067R EWG kit...with a lengthy and expensive list of supporting mods including a Freek tune. The reasons I would choose an ATP kit are convenience and cost.

My question is whether or not you're getting any creep with the catted CS long downpipe and the ATP IWG. In looking through MSF I have found:

1) Everyone universally says that you need to upgrade the downpipe to run a larger turbo like this
2) People with catless downpipes are all getting creep
3) People with catted downpipes are sometimes getting a small, but not necessarily problematic amount of creep

What I don't understand is why I couldn't run the stock downpipe with a test pipe. I have a hard time believing there's some kind of massive increase to be had going from the stock DP with a TP to a catted long DP. Thanks in advance for anyone's input here.

edit: I forgot to add, said local was adamant that I get a 3" catless downpipe.

I'm actually looking into downpipes right now to hopefully replace mine soon. From what I have read, people have seen upwards of 40+hp gains just from a downpipe and retune (obviously with hpfp internals). That right there should be picture enough as to why a downpipe would be needed. There is plenty of aftermarket downpipe options that still retain a HFC, which is the direction I'm headed. Personally, I feel it's the best of both worlds, and should help with creep as well.

A good free-flowing exhaust is best with a bigger turbo.

Does a downpipe make a difference?
