Default AP vs Versatuner

I was ready to drop the hammer and get an AP. Then I saw the write up on Versatuner's latest upgrade. I am now torn between the two. This is my daily driver, so I don't want to f it up, but I like the idea of having 350-400hp to drive to work in. I consider myself a noob for ECU tuning, but have done a ton on non-computer controlled tuning over the past 25 years. Can anyone give me an apples to apples comparison?
Thanks,
Scott

Can't see your mods since I'm using tapatalk but if your stock turbo and no E85 you will be about 50-60 horsepower short of 350 with either...buy the AP and be done with it

Both are good options for tuning, but the COBB AP offers more for us than the versatuner can. The AP hardware lets you monitor real-time all of the time, can snag datalogs on the go, and has much more support on this site.

Hey, atleast I'm not asking about hypertech or stand back. Just from what I've read posted by the beta testers on this site, it looks promising. Plus it's nice to see something designed specifically for the MS6 (no offense to my other Mazda brethren. Just wanted to see if anyone has used both and how they compare side by side.

I havent used a AP but I have used several others on several platforms and Versatune is very good imo and the support is fantastic because their only business is Mazdas. I already have a dh so I didnt want some other ugly pile on my dash to invite people to break into my car.

If you have questions about the AP, feel free to PM me. My job is to work exclusively on the ECU's for the Mazda platform.

They are both capable "tuning" tools and both are able to tune gen1 and MS6 vehicles. The AP works for gen2 MS3s as well whereas VersaTuner does not yet. Also VersaTuner works for vehicles outside of North America and the AP does not. If you're a "noob" to tuning you are best off choosing one of the two and learning how to tune (they are similar) or getting a tune by someone who's more experienced.

I should add, the AP has a dongle that can be used for logging and monitoring a single parameter. With VersaTuner you will need to buy a Tactrix OBD cable and plug it into your laptop that will have to be in the car for datalogging and monitoring.

1) no tuner is gonna net you 350-400hp for your drive without significant modification
2) Do more research, cuz you haven't done any
3) AP is about 100x more popular in the U.S., many shops have tuned with AP on other platforms so they'll at least be familiar with teh accessport as a base, whereas versatuner, as stated, is mazdaspecific, so if the shop has never tuned any mazdas, then they probably have never seen or heard of versatuner.

I was going to go with versatuner back when I was suposed to be a beta tester. It does look like a good product. If anyone is interested I have a tactrix 2.0 cable I am going to list for sale. I have a pic of it but not with the paper with my username so once I get that it will be in my FS listing.

Thanks. I posted it up on NASOIC and already got an offer, but would rather sell to a mazda owner. Plus they are OOS it looks like. Truthfully I would like to try it, but I think Im better off just going with an AP. Have to rip my standback out first as I have it soldered in.
