Exclamation Cobb Accessport "Cannot Connect To ECU" When Installing

I just recently purchased a Cobb Accessport from a friend of mine but am having trouble getting it to install with my speed 6. Every time I go to install it, I confirm that it is indeed a MazdaSpeed 6, then for half a second the scanning ECU screen will come up then following that quick flash of the screen it gives the error that it cannot connect to the ECU. I have called Cobb multiple times and read so much but don't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. So here is what I have done:

IT IS NOT A BAD AP
- I tested the AP by installing it 100% on another speed 3 and it worked perfectly.
- It is also running the latest firmware and has all the maps possible for the car and has been restored to default settings.

IT IS NOT THE BATTERY
- I bought a battery charger and had it on the car for an hour at 10 amps and left it on while trying to install the AP and it still didn't work.

IT IS NOT THE OBDII PORT
- The port was pulled apart with all the pins being pushed back together to make sure it has great contact which it does. All the wires are there as well as all the wires getting the correct amount of power.

Now some thing I am unsure of is maybe a random fuse that I do not know about that is pulling power. I pulled my fan relay because my fans are hard wired thanks to the previous owner. I don't think there is anything else pulling power especially because the battery charger kept my battery around 13-14 voltage.
I also don't know if maybe the ECU is locked out. I don't think it is because Cobb said I should be able to get to the screen that lets me select my map before it gives the error.

Is there anyone who has had this issue?? I cannot figure it out.

EDIT: SOLVED

The problem was ultimately a bad ECU. Thanks to the help and feedback that was received.

Stupid question: You are turning the car to the ON position and not just the accessory position, right? I've done that before, in accessory the AP will get power and turn on but can't do any flashing functions.

can you read obd codes with a dongle or car scanner ? this would confirm obd port working...

could it have been tuned with something else that lock it against cobb ?

Yes I can read codes with a scanner and with the AP itself. Its possible that it was previously tuned but I highly doubt it

If a scantool can read it but the AP still wont connect there is probably another tune on it.

Is there anyway to check? I really don't want to get an ECU and it not fix the issue. I called Cobb and they said that it shouldn't be the ECU. They said that it would give me an error message later down the road of the install if it were the ECU locked out. Also it was engine swapped before I bought it. So Cobb believes it has some random bad ground in the engine. Does that sound possible?

i know that if you flash it your speed with another accessport (new or used) it will overwrite the previous tune even if its married to that accessport. it will actually say its been tuned by another acessport. i know since i transfered my ap v3 from my speed3 to my 6 that wasnt running yet and it was married to some other AP so i just proceed after it asked me if i want to overwrite.

now that is if your speed6 has been married to another AP
im not sure whats the outcome if they use another tuning software like versa or even the old cpe standback.
versa tuned guys how do you guys unmarries your tuned car?

Diagnostic port wiring diagram attached.

I still think you have another tune locking the ECM.

Thank you for that diagram. Do you know if there are any other details that would help me be able to know that the ECU lockout is the issue? Also is there a good thread on how to replace the ECU or what not. I've heard that it can mess with your ignition switch. Is that true?

You would need to have the new ecu programmed for your keys and cluster...usually by the dealer or maybe someone with the hardware to do it.

i read about an Australian guy that replaced the different PCM for a us one....i remember the guy was printing some infos in the thread....you may search about it.

IT is located behind the dash on the driver side.

I dont know much about the AP but you did say your ap for your speed 6 installed 100% on a speed 3. I was under the impression a speed 6 ap wont work on a speed 3. I could be totaly wrong since i never delt with this but i would be thinking i have an ap for a speed 3 and not 1 for a speed 6.

Ok well for one I know it can install on 3’s and 6’s because it’s the same part number. And what do you mean by just trying to dissconnect the ecu? What then?

If it's flash locked, they wont be able to flash it either.

Not sure anyone has asked or you posted, it OP, but is the car actually running? Does it start and run?

If so, you must have some other non-AP tune flashed onto the ECU. If so, the only option may be to take it to a dealer and get the OEM tune flashed back onto the ECU and then start over with your AP.

Yes. It starts and drives fine. Just cannot get the AP to install. Can the dealer see if the ecu is locked?

Well just as an update... I sent my ECU and AP to Cobb and they emailed me back saying that they themselves couldn't even enter into my ECU. So now I'm really screwed. The stealership said $1200 for a new ECU and that's clearly a hard pass. So I went on eBay and was able to find multiple ECU's. My only problem now is figuring out which ECU will work with my car. All most all of the one's that I've found don't have the same numbers on the sticker as does mine. I attached a picture of the numbers on my ECU but I cannot find any Mazda ECU's with this numbering. Does anyone have a clue what ECU I need?? Also are ECU's just plug and play or does it need to be refreshed by the dealership?

it was never plug and play with this car, like i said just go dealership unless you have a friend that can do it for you, programming your ecu to your car with immobilizer and odometer programming, youre lucky its 1200, for yours, its was 2500 here in hawaii to just flash new ecu to car,

Didnt someone post a while back about a similar issue and finding out their ecu was locked via MazdaEdit?

I've gotten some pretty confusing results when searching for the correct ECU for this car. Could anyone with an 07 speed6 please confirm that the main 4 characters on the ECU are L38J? Even better if you could post a picture. Also if anyone has replaced their ECU before, where did you get it from? Trying to avoid as much money as possible but will do what it takes to get 'er tuned.
