Default VersaTune load targeting

Hi,

I don't seem to be hitting my load targets... I did a MAF cal and i get 0% LTFT over the whole WOT run. Took quite a while to get it calibrated to near perfect. And I'm sticking to one fuel.

Could it be that I need to do a throttle cal? If so, can you please guide me? I can do a throttle cal log. Do I adjust the calibration same way as I did the MAF cal?

Thx in advance
Jo

Hi Joey,

VersaTune is not setup to switch between load and boost based tuning. So you are going to have to do a load based tune and change all the appropriate tables. The tuning process is very similar to the AP however in terms of what tables do and what needs to change.

It could also be that you can't reach the loads you are targeting because the turbo can't generate the airflow.

Also, there is good reason to believe that the ECU is not fully targeting load in the upper RPMs since some table are hidden or the wastegate and load dynamics are not aggressive enough.

Post a log, it will be easier to see what's going on including RPM, load, boost, WGDC, mass airflow, and let us know what load you are requesting.

PM me if you're interested in a tune, we work with VersaTune as well now.

Awesome!!

I followed Abilor's guide and commanding 11.4AFR @wot and 14.7AFR CL.

I'm busy with WGDC teasing... So I suppose that might be why I'm not hitting my Load T's...

I'm still learning, so please be nice hehe

Versatune has a table under boost control called Boost tagets(Boosed based tuning).. Should I configure that too? Or just stay with Load targets? And leave boost targeting to default values?

Regards
Jo

I've been having an issue with VT where the throttle kept closing at around 2500rpm even though it was nowhere near the limit I had set for closure. This in turn was causing me to miss my targets further up the revs, I have targeted lower loads in the 2250-2500 range and it seems to have helped. It's still doing it but it's only closing about 1% instead of 5% so I'm gonna keep messing with it. I think it was some sort of smoothing between cells in the tune.

VersaTune - Load targets

Just for interest sake.

"Seems" like my STFT are the cause. How do I adjust the STFT? My LTFT is near 0% and STFT shoots for the sky under WOT...

Ltft and stft always goto zero when you are wot, in versatune it averages about .01 under the target most of the time. I am targeting 2.15 load from 2500rpm through 4k and it actually hits somewhere between 2.09 and 2.16.

what map are you using? When i do my wot i made my own preset, vary it slightly at times.
I think you log is pretty cluttered.

I would use the general performance preset but delete the lambda one and add actual AFR and Desired AFR.

I do my logs usually 1-4th gear, you can start using just 3rd or 4th to reline or 6200rpm wherever your comfortable with. Id be willing to be your wgdc and load error tables need some changes.

My preference is to keep one gear or one run in a log then save. It makes it easier to view when you reopen it.

Thx for your input mate! I will do some logs this weekend! My car is going in to Mazda, they gona replace all my stabilitybar bushes and end links. -- Noisy suspension....

I used the base 95EU map... then started tuning from that. We have 95 unleaded fuel here in SA.

I didn't see that anybody else caught this, and I'm not sure if you meant to say it the way you did, but you should remember that LTFT values should be 0 (or -0.16) by default when you go WOT.

If you're doing your MAF calibration properly, then the only time that your car's ECU will actually be calculating LTFT values will be during Closed-Loop running. In essence, that means that you'll have to keep below whatever Load value that you've set to be the transition to Open-Loop. A good rule of thumb for this is to do a run to simply stay out of boost for a while after you flash a map. I believe that it takes about 100 miles after you flash a map for the ECU to have learned your LTFT trims properly, and as a result, it will take time to actually be able to calibrate your MAF properly.

If you look in Abilor's guide, he covers this reasonably extensively.

Edit: I see 06Speed6 picked up on this too. Good luck!!

Yes i see how i typed my Q. I'm sorry for that. I know that OL LTFT will show 0% and that i'll need to check my Desired lambda to Actual lambda to get the MAF cal correct in that zone. I will have to do a WOT run with Actual AFR compared to Desired AFR.

You guys have been a great help! Thx for not burning me!!! haha

I'm still learning, and it seems a good rule of thumb - If you think you have read Abilor's guide 100 times, that's still not enough! Print it out and put it under your pillow... hahahahaha
